Isis is the most famous god of entire Egypt and she was the sister of Osiris, Nepthys and Seth, and the proud daughter of Nut and Geb. She was also the affectionate mother of Horus, the famed child! Symbolized as the woman, she is wearing vulture-like headdress and a permanent solar disk interspersed with a pair of horns. She is also fond of wearing double crowns of North and the South, adorned with the well-known feathers of Maat or a pair of ram’s horns. As the proud wife of Osiris, she was always eager to assist her husband. In fact, she brought the dead Osiris back to his life, so that he could make her pregnant to give birth to her son Horus. Isis is also the vital link between the earthly people and the heavenly gods. Living Horus is the almighty pharaoh and he is visible as suckling Isis’ heavenly breasts. Isis protected and preserved Horus when he was a child; his mean uncle Seth always wanted him dead. Isis is also a great magician and her magical skills were the folklore of the entire country; she created the first cobra and extracted its venom to cajole Re to reveal his secret name. Isis is also a god known for her role in providing life and food to the deceased.
Apart from being the greatest of all Egyptian goddesses, she was also a highly beneficial goddess and a dear mother, whose kinship encompassed all living creatures. She also represented the entire woman folk with her love and affection. Strangely, her worship spilled over to the far way borders of England too!
